Tuesday at 8 a.m., Massman Construction Company began installing the first of two arches that will stabilize the renovated Broadway Bridge upon its completion in Spring, 2017. The bridge is projected to be open to traffic by the end of March, but will require additional work before it is complete. In the meantime, Massman has little over 130 days to make all the necessary preparations, including the installation of the two arches.
According to the state Highway and Transportation Department, the river will be closed to traffic for 24 hours to reduce the potential for disturbing the process. Otherwise, there are no closures or restrictions. The public is welcome to watch, but should be aware that the process won’t have quite the same “BANG!” as the footing implosions, which took place in late October this year.
