Federal tax filing deadlines have been pushed back to July as the United States combats the coronavirus.
U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin announced Friday morning that the federal Tax Day has been moved to July 15 from the usual April 15 filing deadline.
Currently, this applies only to federal taxes. State tax deadline are still due on April 15 in Arkansas. Gov. Asa Hutchinson has fielded questions concerning tax deadlines but has said that there are no conclusive answers so far.
“This relief only applies to federal income tax (including tax on self-employment income) payments otherwise due April 15, 2020, not state tax payments or deposits or payments of any other type of federal tax,” according to an IRS statement
This move is designed to provide Americans with three additional months to properly prepare taxes and to minimize any financial distress that the coronavirus outbreak may cause.
