President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have both tested positive for COVID-19.
Trump announced that he and his wife had tested positive on Twitter, writing “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”
The news of his diagnosis comes after the revelation that former White House staffer Hope Hicks had been diagnosed with the virus after traveling with Trump earlier this week. Trump made reference to Hicks’ positive test result in the tweet immediately preceding his diagnosis announcement. In this tweet, he wrote that he had, at that time, not received his test result but would be beginning the quarantine process.
Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff, has confirmed that Trump is experiencing “mild” COVID-19 symptoms. Meadows said that Trump was currently in the White House residence.
According to a New York Times report, attendees at a fundraiser in New Jersey said that Trump appeared “lethargic” on Thursday. Lethargy, or fatigue, is cited by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as a symptom of COVID-19.
