Former Rose Bud city councilman Nick Cartwright is seeking the 2022 Democratic nomination for Arkansas’ Second District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, his campaign announced Thursday.
Cartwright, 27, is the first candidate to challenge Republican incumbent French Hill of Little Rock. Hill defeated Democrat state Sen. Joyce Elliott in 2020 to win re-election.
In a press release, Cartwright said he’s running for “regular, everyday Arkansans” who he believes have been left out of the political process. His campaign will include a focus on building a “worker’s economy,” revitalizing rural communities, investing locally and combating climate change.
“The people of the Second District deserve a representative from our communities willing to offer real, bold solutions to our biggest problems,” he said.
Currently self-employed, Cartwright has previously worked with the Rural Community Alliance, the Arkansas Public Policy Panel and the Community Farm Alliance. He received his bachelor of science from the University of Central Arkansas and his master of public administration from Arkansas State University.
