Dansons US is opening a 335,000 square-foot barbecue wood pellet mill and distribution center in Hope, which is expected to be the largest such facility in the United States.
Sitting on 143 acres, the facility will feature three pelleters with 100,000-ton capacity. Phoenix-Ariz.-based Dansons plans to expand the facility to nine pelleters, providing the company with a 300,000-ton capacity. Dansons’ new site will also be a distributer center for wood pelleters and wood pellet barbecue grills.
This project is projected to create 50 to 100 new jobs over the course of three years.
“This is a great day for the city of Hope,” Arkansas Secretary of Commerce Mike Preston said in a statement. “Dansons is renowned for their exceptional products and community involvement, and I know they will have a huge impact on economic and community development in Southwest Arkansas. I look forward to continuing to work with them as they join Arkansas’ diverse business community.”
The Dansons site will be located in a former Georgia-Pacific particleboard facility, which was shuttered in 2019. According to a Google Search, the Hope facility is located at 100 Temple Drive.
Dansons was founded in 1999 by Dan Thiessen and his sons, Jeff and Jordan, with the aim of using sawmill waste as a reliable energy source. The company has a range of products, from its Country Smokers line, its Pit Boss Grills, A-Maze-N Smokin’ Products, Louisiana Grills and more.
The wood pellets manufactured at the Hope facility are expected to be used for the Pit Boss Grills and Louisiana Grills brands.
