Sixty-one new coronavirus cases have been reported in Arkansas since yesterday, bringing the state’s total to 584 positive cases. Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) Secretary Dr. Nate Smith confirmed the rise in cases during a Wednesday afternoon press conference.
While the number of positives increased today, the number of hospitalizations declined from Tuesday. According to Smith, there are currently 56 individuals hospitalized due to coronavirus. This is a decrease of eight patients from Tuesday.
In total, there have been 90 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 since the beginning of the ongoing crisis. There have also been 32 patients who have been on ventilators since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both Smith and Gov. Asa Hutchinson also announced that there have been two new deaths since yesterday’s press conference. This brings the total up to 10 for Arkansas. At the global level, there have been 45,497 deaths due to coronavirus and 4,476 in the United States, according to the ADH website. Arkansas’ death totals accounts for 0.22 percent of the United States’ total deaths and 0.02 percent of the worldwide deaths.
The number of healthcare workers infected with COVID-19 rose today. Smith said that there are now 84 infected healthcare workers in Arkansas, an increase of five from Tuesday.
Officials did not announce any new counties with infections today. The counties with reported infections include Benton, Washington, Sebastian, Polk, Sevier, Boone, Searcy, Van Buren, Conway, Pope, Cleburne, Faulkner, Pulaski, Saline, Garland, Grant, Jefferson, Clark, Cleveland, Desha, Lincoln, Bradley, Union, Columbia, Woodruff, Independence, Lawrence, Greene, Craighead, Poinsett, Crittenden, Cross, Crawford, Stone, White, Pike, Hempstead, Drew, Hot Springs, Lonoke, Chictot, Randolph, Baxter, Johnson, Perry, Ashley, Nevada, Hempstead, Newton and St. Francis counties.
The remaining counties with no reported coronavirus cases include Calhoun, Carroll, Clay, Dallas, Franklin, Fulton, Izard, Jackson, Lafayette, Lee, Little River, Logan, Madison, Marion, Miller, Mississippi, Monroe, Montgomery, Ouachita, Phillips, Prairie, Scott, Sharp and Yell counties.
