Plans for a new Costco in west Little Rock have been approved.
On Thursday, May 14, Little Rock city planning commissioners signed off on the retailer’s development plan. Costco will be developing a 31.81 acre site at Chenal Parkway and Kirk Road, with the building occupying 21.22 acres.
The planning commission met to approve a rezoning application and the development plan. Costco has applied to have the district zoned as a commercial district.
The building concept designs list the building as having a total square footage of 165,153 square feet, which includes 155,580 square feet of warehouse space; 3,950 square feet for liquor sales; and 5,623 square feet for a vestibule. The designs also list 741 parking spots with 724 regular spots and 17 handicap accessible spots.
Based on AMP’s previous reports, the Costco location will provide 150-250 “high-paying” jobs.
Flake Kelley will be developing the site, and earlier reports indicated that construction would begin February 2021 with a grand opening set for July 2021. It is unclear if COVID-19 will impact this schedule.
