Arkansas architecture and engineering firm Cromwell recently announced that Chairman and CEO Greg Cockmon has retired after 37 years with the firm. Effective July 9, Dan Fowler has assumed the role of chairman and CEO as part of a long-planned leadership transition.
Along with Fowler’s promotion, Todd Kuhn has been named president, Rob Seay will continue as executive vice president, and Aaron Scott has joined the executive leadership team as executive vice president.
According to the firm, the succession plan is intended to build on Cromwell’s history while positioning the company for continued growth.
Fowler’s career at Cromwell began as a 19-year-old intern, and he has spent his entire professional career with the firm. A graduate of the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, Fowler previously served as chief operating officer and president before taking on the role of CEO.
Throughout his career, he has focused on urban design, adaptive reuse, campus planning and historic preservation, while helping lead downtown revitalization and community development projects in Arkansas and beyond.
“Dan understands what makes Cromwell special because he has grown up with this firm,” said Greg Cockmon. “He is an exceptional architect, a respected leader, and someone who is deeply committed to our employees, our clients, and our future. I have tremendous confidence in Dan’s ability to lead Cromwell into its next chapter. His lifelong career here gives him a genuine understanding of what makes Cromwell so special, and a unique perspective on the firm’s future.”
Fowler said he plans to continue investing in the firm’s employees, clients and communities.
“It is an incredible honor to have the opportunity to lead a firm with such a rich history and strong reputation,” said Fowler. “Cromwell’s success has always been built on the talent of our people, the trust of our clients, and our commitment to creating meaningful impact through design and engineering. I look forward to building on that foundation while continuing to invest in our people, our communities, and the future of our profession.”
As president, Kuhn will oversee the firm’s daily operations while supporting strategic growth and client development efforts.
Kuhn brings more than 36 years of experience in project management, design, commissioning and energy diagnostics. He also founded Cromwell Energy Services, a division focused on helping clients improve building performance and energy efficiency.
In addition to his new responsibilities, Kuhn will assume leadership of Cromwell’s federal practice.
“Todd has consistently demonstrated the vision, leadership, and operational expertise needed to help guide our firm forward,” said Fowler. “His ability to identify opportunities, develop innovative solutions, and build strong client relationships has had a tremendous impact on Cromwell’s success.”
Seay will remain executive vice president, where he oversees the firm’s engineering departments and industrial practice.
His experience includes designing research laboratories, office buildings, industrial facilities and mission-critical systems. He also manages engineering operations, project coordination and quality management across the firm’s portfolio.
“Rob’s leadership and technical expertise continue to be invaluable to our organization,” said Fowler. “His commitment to quality, innovation, and mentorship has strengthened our engineering practice and helped develop the next generation of engineering leaders. Under Rob’s leadership our Industrial practice has grown to be one of the most recognized in the US, building on a legacy that was established with the arrival of Winthrop Rockefeller to Arkansas.”
Scott has been promoted to executive vice president after serving as director of healthcare.
With two decades of architectural experience, Scott specializes in healthcare design and planning. His work includes hospitals, medical office buildings, ambulatory surgery centers, clinics, imaging centers and Department of Defense healthcare projects throughout the United States and abroad.
“Aaron’s promotion reflects the significant impact he has had on our healthcare practice and our firm as a whole,” said Fowler. “He is a respected leader, an outstanding architect, and someone who consistently demonstrates a commitment to excellence. We are excited to welcome him to the executive leadership team.”
Looking Ahead
Company leaders say the executive transition reflects Cromwell’s long-standing commitment to continuity and thoughtful succession planning.
With Fowler serving as CEO, Kuhn as president, and Seay and Scott as executive vice presidents, the firm says it is well-positioned to continue serving clients while building on its decades-long legacy in architecture, engineering and design across Arkansas and beyond.
