National builder of site-built, manufactured, tiny, modular and CrossMod® homes, Clayton, announced earlier this week an expansion to its home construction operations in Conway. The company is set to invest $42 million in a facility for building manufactured homes, estimated to create more than 250 new jobs over three years.
“We are thrilled to welcome Clayton to the fastest-growing city in Arkansas, bringing growth and new jobs that will strengthen our local economy for years to come,” said Conway Mayor Bart Castleberry.
An existing 220,000-square-foot facility will be modernized to put out an estimated 3,000 homes annually. The new Clayton plant will feature an indoor, air-conditioned environment that is protected from weather elements like heat, rain and snow. The renovation and installation of the equipment will begin in December, while production is expected to begin in the summer of 2025. Hiring will start while renovations begin as Clayton looks to bring on nearly 200 team members in the first year of operation, according to a release by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.
“Today’s announcement that Clayton is locating its new manufacturing facility in Conway is a major win for Arkansas,” said Clint O’Neal, executive director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. “Clayton is a leader in the modern manufactured housing industry, and we are proud to welcome them to Conway. Congratulations to the local community on this economic development win, which will create new opportunities in the area.”
“We’re proud that Arkansas has what Clayton needs: a highly trained workforce, low costs, and pro-business state and local government,” said Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “This company won’t just build up Conway and Central Arkansas’ economy – it will build the affordable homes Arkansans want on their pathway to the American Dream.”
Clayton will recruit for a broad range of positions, including home construction, environmental health and safety, materials management, customer care, sales and human resources. “Clayton is a national single-family home builder dedicated to Opening doors to a better life through attainable homeownership,” said Keith Holdbrooks, Clayton Home Building Group CEO and executive chairman. “With the need for affordable housing greater than ever, Conway is an ideal location to expand our modern manufactured home building operations. Known for being one of the “most giving cities” in the U.S., Conway’s spirit of environmental stewardship and volunteerism reflect our values of sustainability and positive community impact. Together, Clayton and Conway can be a force for good.”
