The Arkansas Broadcasters Association recently revealed that Bobby Bones, the nationally recognized radio morning show host, will be honored as the 2024 Arkansan of the Year. Bones, who hails from Mountain Pine, will receive the award during a luncheon on Oct. 14 as part of the Arkansas Broadcasters Convention in Hot Springs.
Bobby Bones is the host of “The Bobby Bones Show,” a leading country music morning show with millions of listeners across the nation. His deep connection to Arkansas remains evident as he frequently references his home state on air. Reflecting on the honor, Bones expressed his gratitude, noting that receiving this award in his home state adds special significance to the recognition.
Greg Horne, President of the Arkansas Broadcasters Association, praised Bones as a role model for aspiring broadcasters, highlighting his journey from local radio to national prominence.
“It’s a great example of success when a young broadcaster works hard to build his career while being consistently focused on his audience,” Horne said.
Bones’ career includes hosting roles on television, writing two New York Times bestselling books, and earning accolades in country music, including multiple awards from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. He also made history as the youngest inductee into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
The Arkansan of the Year award, which honors individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the state, is being reinstated after a six-year hiatus. Past recipients include prominent figures such as Bill Clinton, Johnny Cash and Jerry Jones.
The Arkansas Broadcasters Association’s decision to revive the award underscores its commitment to recognizing the impactful work of Arkansas natives.
“We’re very excited to bring back the Arkansan of the Year Award,” said ABA Convention Chairman Chad Whiteaker. “Arkansas has so many individuals whose actions improve our state, and we’re thrilled to return to recognizing an individual each year.”
The return of this honor marks a significant moment for the Arkansas community as it continues to celebrate the achievements of its distinguished citizens.
