Barnes and Noble will not be reopening in Jonesboro after being destroyed by a EF-3 tornado in late March.
The store, located in the Mall at Turtle Creek, was hit directly by the tornado on March 28. The tornado caused more than $100 million in damages in Jonesboro with estimates as high as $300 million.
In a statement to KAIT Region 8 News, Barnes and Noble confirmed that the book store would not be reopening due to “uneconomic” conditions. However, the company is reportedly looking to reopen a store in the Jonesboro area.
An “active search” for a new location is expected to begin when “normal retail conditions return.”
Multiple Barnes & Noble locations around the state closed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. These stores later reopened in mid-May with reduced store hours. These stores were located in Fayetteville, Little Rock, North Little Rock and Rogers.
