Back Home Barbecue, which opened last April at the corner of Markham and State St. in Little Rock, has cemented itself as a go-to lunch spot for professionals working downtown.
From early morning, people can smell the smoker getting meat ready for the day. The doors open at 11 a.m., and they often start selling out of crowd favorites by 3 p.m. Back Home boasts a menu chock-full of smoked meats, including brisket, pulled pork and spare ribs.
The delicious options do not stop there. Add side dishes such as potato salad, zucchini salad, cream corn, green beans and dirty rice to make a filling meal. Don’t forget the Texas Twinkie, which is not a dessert, but actually a savory, smoked bacon-wrapped jalapeno stuffed with brisket and three types of cheese.
While Back Home Barbecue is the perfect stop for an office lunch, it and the upstairs Attic Bar offer so much more.
You have worked a long day at the office, and there is one thing on your mind — happy hour. Look no further than Attic Bar. Through a different entrance and up a flight of stairs, patrons are transported to an eclectically decorated bar with a relaxed atmosphere.
“It’s a fun place to hang out,” co-owner Adam Murray said.
From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, the bar offers happy hour deals, including $6 draft beers, $7 well cocktails, $8 glasses of wine and $9 for their featured cocktail of the month. For the month of April, it’s the Orange Blossom, a cocktail made with London Dry gin, dry vermouth and fresh orange juice.
Even if you have eaten downstairs at Back Home before, you should still check out the menu at Attic Bar, which features different options, including a brisket quesadilla, BBQ tacos and even a crunchwrap.
“The crunchwrap is our ode to the Taco Bell classic,” Murray said.
He also suggests the BBQ charcuterie board as the perfect item to share with coworkers and nibble on while sipping on a refreshing after-work cocktail or beer.
“It’s out of this world,” he said.
The swanky venue is also a great option for a professional party or event, and is sure to wow guests.
Murray said it is a great option to break free from a sterile banquet hall. Both Murray and co-owner Chase Rittelmeyer agree that the decorations and furniture create an environment in which party-goers can feel comfortable moving around and networking.
“You’ll notice people tend to migrate,” Rittelmeyer said.
The place can support quiet conversations in the corner while still providing an exciting, fun bar atmosphere.
Even if you are having an office event or luncheon elsewhere, you can still bring Back Home Barbecue to you thanks to its catering services. It is the perfect option for an office meal because it is simple to order and easy to share, Rittelmeyer said.
For catering, the Back Home team asks that the order be placed 72 hours in advance, so it can be picked up on the day it’s ordered at the restaurant.
“We’ll have it ready!” Murray said.
For larger events where a full catering service is wanted, including servers and food delivery, the owners said that people should contact the restaurant via email so they can discuss details. Learn more about catering on the Back Home website at bhbbq.com or email info@bhbbq.com. The restaurant’s phone number is 501-819-4227.
Come enjoy Back Home Barbecue Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Attic Bar is open Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m. to midnight and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
