The Arkansas House of Representatives and Senate have officially recognized March as Women’s History Month and March 8 as International Women’s Day with the passage of House Resolution 1069 (HR 1069) and Senate Resolution 39 (SR 39). Sponsored by a bipartisan group of legislators, the resolutions also commend the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas (WFA) for its efforts to advance economic opportunities for women and girls statewide.
The measure highlights the contributions of women in shaping Arkansas and the nation, from leadership in business, government and social change to historic milestones such as Senator Hattie Caraway, the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate, and Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the state’s first female governor.
“This resolution is a reminder of the incredible contributions of women past, present and future,” said Anna Beth Gorman, CEO of the WFH. “Our work is driven by the belief that every first for Arkansas women and girls should never be the last. By championing economic opportunity, leadership and education, the foundation is ensuring that today’s successes open the door for the next generation.”
