Although COVID-19 has caused devastation and many challenges around the world, it has also created an opportunity to come together as a global community to help each other.
May 5, 2020 has been dedicated as #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of generosity and solidarity, in effort to mobilize support during this unprecedented time.
#GivingTuesdayNow is organized by GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement that began in 2012 and has grown over the past seven years to inspire hundreds of millions of people to give, usually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. GivingTuesday will still host its traditional event on December 1, 2020, but #GivingTuesdayNow is an emergency response to the great needs created by COVID-19.
During the previous GivingTuesday, held December 3, 2019, the global giving day generated $2 billion in giving, just in the United States.
Here are some organizations in Arkansas that need our support:
ARKANSAS ADVOCATES FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
AACF needs your support to be a voice for kids and low-income families. We are on the front lines of making policy recommendations for quality, affordable health care and economic security for all Arkansans during this difficult time.
Let’s come together to create a wave of generosity, engagement and action! Please visit our website at https://www.aradvocates.org/donate to make your donation to AACF today. And thank you for making a difference right here at home!
ARKANSAS ARTS CENTER
In times of uncertainty, the arts can play an important role in bringing us hope, solace and a sense of community. While the Arkansas Arts Center’s in-person programs are postponed, we are offering creative and engaging arts experiences where many people are now gathering for conversation and connection – online. Learn more at arkansasartscenter.org/givingtuesday.
ARGENTA COMMUNITY THEATER
At Argenta Community Theater, it is our mission to serve the community through education and the advancement of the performing arts. As a show of their commitment and belief in our mission, ACT Board Members have generously pledged a matching fund of $7,500 for Giving Tuesday Now with ACT. We are so grateful to this group of ACT Heroes for kicking off this important day of giving!
Please help us reach this goal and DOUBLE your impact! Any amount that you are able to give is vital to sustaining us through this time of darkness and helping us grow into our bright future. We hope you’ll pitch in to become an ACT Hero too! To help support ACT on #GivingTuesdayNow, please visit: https://argentacommunitytheater.org/support/ to make a donation.

Here at Immerse, we have triaged the basic needs of the youth we support. We are now focused on securing funds to ensure loving and healing spaces for our youth by making some key repairs to our housing. A loving space sends the message to our youth that they matter, it promotes their “felt safety,” and it inspires them to pursue their goals and aspirations.
One of our supportive homes is in need of significant updates to become a truly loving space:
- New windows – This ensures safety in the event of a house fire and reduces energy expenses
- Central heat and air – This house is currently using window units for AC that do not keep up with the demand in the summer
Our goal is to raise $30,000 to make these needed repairs. With the support of a couple donors who stepped up early to help, we have already raised $16,500 of the $30,000 needed to complete the repairs. As a thank you to everyone who is able to make a donation of $25 or more as we work toward creating loving spaces for our youth, we’ll send a code for a free “Love is Rising” T-shirt. https://immersearkansas.org/donate

MAMIE’S POPPY PLATES
This Tuesday, May 5, non-profits around the world are coming together for a day of giving and unity. Our daily lives may have slowed down, but pregnancy and child loss hasn’t stopped. Families are grieving, many now alone because of social distancing. Your donation will help us meet the needs of our partner hospitals and online orders through 2020 and bridge the gap until our Poppy Party in November. We know there are so many ways to give back and help in your community. We ask that you keep Mamie’s in mind tomorrow if considering a charitable contribution.
Today is a new national day of giving, #GivingTuesdayNow! We want to thank our supporters all around the state by giving back in a way that represents the 331 children and teens that we serve who are waiting in foster care to be adopted. So we are giving away 331 ice creams & frozen yogurts today to the first friends who stop by our two giveaway locations. Just drive by one of the locations during the time slots listed below & look for us in our masks & gloves to get your sweet treat! Our supporters are so sweet to us & we would not be able to fight for Zero without your generosity. Just look for us outside in our masks & gloves, drive up & we’ll pass you the frozen treats. This is our way of saying “Thank you!” to you and businesses like David’s & TCBY who also support our mission!
