The head of the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is stepping down after eight years.
Bishop Woosley will be resigning as the director of the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, effective Aug. 3. Woosley informed Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) Secretary Larry Walther of his intention to resign on Monday, July 13 in an email. In the email, Woosley wrote, “It has been an absolute pleasure working with you over the past several years and I appreciate you allowing me to serve in this capacity. I am proud of our accomplishments and am certain that the Lottery staff will continue to do great things.”
Walther announced Woosley resignation on Tuesday, July 14, noting that Woosley would be pursuing “other opportunities.”
“Since the Lottery launched in Arkansas in 2009, Bishop has played a critical role in its success, overseeing a record amount of scholarships for Arkansas students,” Walther said in a statement. “I appreciate his leadership and wish him all the best as he moves forward in his career.”
Chief counsel Michael Helms will serve as the lottery’s interim director as a search is launched to find a new permanent director.
Woosley has served in the lottery director since 2012 and previously served as the chief legal counsel under former lottery director Ernie Passailaigue.
