One lucky Arkansas entrepreneur will be in the hot seat soon as she faces off with some of the toughest investors on television. Even more impressively – she’s only 14 years old.
Sofia Overton, the founder of Wise Pocket Products, is taking on ABC’s Shark Tank. She will be pitching her company, which produces a clothing line aimed at active kids who need more pockets.
As she told Arkansas Money & Politics in a February 2019 interview, Overton got the idea for Wise Pocket Products when she saw an older cousin slip a cell phone down her boot because her leggings had no pockets. This was an ah-ha moment for Overton, who realized she had the same storage problems.
Starting small, Overton designed a sock that had a discrete pocket at the ankle. But she went even further and decided to incorporate leggings into her product line. Today, Overton offers a range of colors and designs for both socks and leggings. Wise Pocket Products’ gender neutral socks range from “cream-colored to black to the louder splatter-paint design,” while the leggings come in a bright color blend, denim and more.
Overton has already successfully raised capital for her company. In 2018, she launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, where she reached her $10,000 goal in only one month.
Wise Pocket Products has been on an upward trajectory since then. Now, Overton will face the “sharks,” as they decide whether or not to invest in her company.
Her appearance on the hit show is for January 12, at 8 p.m.
