Donna Hall, Senior Vice President, CFO and Kim Markland, President, CEO, Bank of Little Rock
What makes an “influencer,” in your opinion?
An influencer creates meaningful impact by shining a light on others or important issues, not by seeking the spotlight themselves. In community banking, influence is built on trust, showing up consistently, making sound decisions, and helping people and businesses thrive. True influence happens when leaders collaborate and empower their teams to create something stronger than any one person could build alone.
What is one secret to success you wish you had learned sooner?
Donna Hall, senior vice president and chief financial officer: That collaboration accelerates everything. You can work hard on your own, but you go farther faster when you surround yourself with people who challenge and support you.
Kim Markland, president and CEO: And that leadership doesn’t require having every answer. It requires building a team you believe in and letting them shine.
What is one thing you would change about your industry or field?
Markland: I would simplify banking for customers. The industry can become overly complex, and clarity builds confidence.
Hall: I’d like to see more innovation tailored to the way community banks operate, with tools and products that help us serve our customers more efficiently without losing the personal touch.
When did it click for you that this was the career you wanted to pursue?
Markland: Being from a small town, I learned early on how deeply a community bank can impact a neighborhood or a family. Banking is about relationships, and that drew me in early.
Hall: For me, it was realizing the work combined everything I love: problem solving, structure, service and the opportunity to make real, measurable differences in people’s financial lives.
Where do you go for motivation and inspiration?
Professionally, our team inspires us daily. Watching talented people collaborate and grow reminds us why the work matters.
What is the most underrated skill all leaders should possess?
Markland: Humility, because it keeps you grounded and open to new ideas.
Hall: Listening — real listening. It builds trust, and trust builds strong organizations.
