At just 28 years old, Hunter Lauderdale already has more than a decade’s worth of experience in outdoor services. He may not be the typical young businessman, but he does have more than a few of the typical traits crucial to success in any line of work — drive, hunger and an unrelenting commitment to improving his craft.
“I’ve had the opportunity to experience every level of the business, from hands-on labor in the early days to now managing crews, overseeing projects and driving long-term growth strategy,” Lauderdale said. “That progression has shaped a leadership approach centered on accountability, efficiency and delivering measurable value to clients.”
At 17, while his peers contemplated professional possibilities still years down the road, Lauderdale had already built up an impressive client list more than 100 names deep. With only a pickup truck and the willingness to keep going, he set to work making his dreams a reality, steadily expanding the business and furthering his track record of top-notch work. The discipline that spurred Lauderdale on then remains today, and he expects the same level of dedication from every person representing the Lauderdale Outdoor Services brand.
“There is no dead weight on the crew,” he said. “Everyone is as driven as me.”
The call to business ownership, especially starting from scratch, is not for everyone. Lauderdale gets it honestly, coming from a long line of entrepreneurial-minded family members. Lauderdale Outdoor Services continues in that vein and is a family affair through and through. Lauderdale’s wife, Maci, handles the administrative side of the business, and she is the “backbone” of the company, he said. Lauderdale said he is especially proud to see the family name on the side of his company’s vehicles as they roll onto countless jobs across central Arkansas.
Lauderdale Outdoor Services has steadily expanded its footprint by focusing on reliable execution and reinvesting into equipment, personnel and operational growth. Lauderdale has solidified a reputation for utilizing the latest in landscaping technology and techniques to transform homeowners’ outdoor spaces. Referrals from satisfied customers, meanwhile, have only given him and his team the opportunity to show more people what they are capable of.
“Every project reflects a commitment to quality, efficiency and long-term value,” Lauderdale said.
Lauderdale also credited the many local businessmen along the way who helped him by letting him borrow equipment, investing money in him and imparting wisdom. The strength of Arkansas’ small business community lies in collaboration, and Lauderdale has taken up the call to pass on lessons to others, as well, whether they are new additions to his team or other young entrepreneurs eyeing a similar path.
Among the most important pieces of advice he has to share are nonnegotiables for setting oneself apart, such as consistency, punctuality — “early is on time, and on time is late,” he said — and fulfilling one’s word. While he still has a long road ahead of him and plenty left to learn, the journey so far has been more than worthwhile.
“There is no sleeping for me because I am a problem solver,” Lauderdale said. “It takes everything you’ve got, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
