Since 2019, Caleb Talley has made it his mission to scale the impact of the Startup Junkie Foundation, whose initiatives and outreach help turn today’s budding entrepreneurs into tomorrow’s successful startups, industry-shaping innovations and world-changing ideas. Connecting people and resources at every stage of development, Talley and the Startup Junkie team play a vital role in putting Arkansas on the map as an ideal place to start and grow businesses.
“To me, leadership in this line of work is a generous offering of yourself to others with no expectation of anything in return,” he said. “The people who move this industry forward give away their time, their networks and their hard-won lessons for free, and the return shows up later in somebody else’s win.”
Talley explained that contrary to many other fields, the job of a leader in the startup space is not merely to capture value but to “give it away and trust that the ecosystem returns it.” The scoreboard, he said, belongs to someone else because Startup Junkie’s wins are one and the same with those of its clients. The startup mindset infuses every aspect of the team’s work, including Talley’s outlook on leading others.
“I’d like to think my approach to leadership is shaped by a team culture of moving quickly and getting things done,” he said. “In terms of team size compared to the scale of the work and responsibility, they’re punching well above their weight class. As long as the right butts are in the right seats, the best thing I can do is give them the agency to get after it.”
Being in the right place at the right moment has also defined Talley’s professional trajectory. He has always been ready to take advantage of new opportunities as they arise, regardless of how far afield they might seem at the time. That willingness to “fall upward,” as he described it, has led him from his earliest days as a beat reporter to helping empower Arkansas’ startup talent.
“They say it’s better to be lucky than good, and I tend to agree,” Talley said. “I’ve tried to put myself in the position to take on a little more responsibility than expected, work myself to the edge of what I thought I could handle and deliver as much value as I could for the people who trusted me with each of the positions I’ve been placed in.”
One thing Talley keeps front of mind is the true nature of the work he and his team do at Startup Junkie. Serving entrepreneurs and small business owners is about more than helping them achieve their dreams. Those successes compound to improve countless other lives, from families and employees to customers and clients. Setting up others for success — whether it is the members of his team or the next wave of Arkansas startup leaders — has been a cornerstone of Talley’s story.
“If I had the chance to go back and give my younger self advice about my career path, particularly on what to change, I probably wouldn’t say much other than to enjoy the journey,” he said. “It all leads somewhere special.”

Startup Junkie Foundation is a nonprofit entrepernuerial support organization that has served thousands of entrepreneurs across Arkansas.
