IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT YOUR INDUSTRY?
One thing I’d love to see is even more agility. Because our work requires planning 20, 30 or 40 years into the future, big decisions naturally take time — and for good reason — but I sometimes wish the industry as a whole could move more quickly on the things that impact customers right now.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A YOUNG WOMAN EARLY IN HER CAREER?
Shirley Chisholm famously said, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” I believe that wholeheartedly. Seek mentors, stay curious, and remember that you don’t have to have every answer to show up with confidence and contribute in a powerful way.
WHAT PRECAREER MOMENT HAS HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON THE WAY YOU APPROACH YOUR WORK?
My grandfather repeatedly encouraged me to take psychology courses even though it wasn’t my field of study. He believed that truly understanding people was essential to being successful in any field. That advice has stayed with me throughout my career. It’s influenced not just how I lead but how I connect with customers, coworkers and the community.
IS THERE ANOTHER “POWER WOMAN” WHO INSPIRES YOU?
The girls in my Girl Scout troops inspire me the most. Watching them grow in confidence, kindness and leadership reminds me what the future can look like when young women are encouraged to use their voices and support one another. Their curiosity, courage and determination motivate me every day to be a better leader and a better role model.
WHAT IS A QUOTE OR SAYING THAT MOTIVATES YOU?
“Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind,” by Brené Brown. It’s a reminder that honesty delivered with empathy is one of the most meaningful forms of kindness.
