WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE DEFINING MOMENT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
One of the defining moments of my career came during the COVID-19 period, when I worked with several families who were heirs to properties at risk of foreclosure. Most didn’t realize they had legal protections available to them. I took it upon myself to research the applicable laws and worked closely with my previous litigation team to develop an assumption process that allowed these families to keep their homes. It reminded me why I fell in love with this profession in the first place — to advocate for people and their homes, especially when they don’t know how to advocate for themselves.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
I love being part of people’s biggest life transitions, whether they’re buying their first home, stepping into a new chapter or reaching a long-term financial goal. After 21 years in this industry, I’ve had the privilege of helping multiple generations of the same families, which is heartwarming. I also love welcoming new families to the Ozarks and hearing what made them fall in love with our area.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT YOUR INDUSTRY?
I would change the number of complex regulations. While clear rules and consumer protection are essential, there’s a lot of unnecessary complexity that makes the process harder than it needs to be. A more common-sense approach would benefit everyone while still allowing us to serve borrowers efficiently.
WHAT PRE-CAREER MOMENT HAS HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON THE WAY YOU APPROACH YOUR WORK?
I was nervous when I was offered a promotion to be a mortgage lender because I was young. A mentor encouraged me by saying, “It’s a job you’ll grow into.” Her confidence gave me the courage to embrace the challenge, keep learning and grow with each opportunity.
WHAT OBSTACLES HAVE YOU FACED EITHER PERSONALLY OR PROFESSIONALLY?
When my community bank merged into a larger bank, I eventually faced burnout because I couldn’t help my customers the way I was accustomed to. The experience propelled me as a banker and taught me how to adapt to change, but I longed for a more personal approach. Moving to Signature Bank of Arkansas, with its community focus and modern technology, gave me that balance and rekindled my passion for mortgage lending.
WHAT IS LEFT ON YOUR “CAREER CHECKLIST”?
I hope to continue growing Signature Bank of Arkansas in our Harrison community, a place that truly feels like home. I want more people to experience our welcoming atmosphere, and I hope to expand our loan and retail departments while strengthening our local impact.
