Alice Walton is setting out to improve health care in Arkansas and beyond.
On Wednesday, the Walmart scion announced the creation of the Whole Health Institute and Chopra Library in Northwest Arkansas. The new institutions will be located in Bentonville.
Former U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs official Tracy Gaudet will serve as the director for the Whole Health Institute.
The new institute, according to Walton, will be focused on integrative health. Instead of being disease-focused, the institute aims to take a holistic approach to health in order to improve individual and collective quality of health.
“We need to train young doctors in whole health and integrative approaches, we need to work with employers to help them understand how we can create healthier employees, which contributes to a healthier bottom line,” Walton said.
Walton announced the institute during a meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Council at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
