Alice Walton’s efforts to revolutionize health care, including her namesake medical school opening in Bentonville this summer, have earned the Walmart heiress a spot on the “TIME100 Health 2025” list. The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine released a statement calling the recognition “a powerful testament to Alice’s vision, leadership and impact in health care throughout the Heartland and beyond.”
“It’s an honor to be recognized by TIME and to be included alongside so many people focused on improving health and wellness,” Walton said. “Increasing access to high-quality, whole health care is critical to improving health outcomes in our country, and I’m committed to advancing this work.”
TIME states that its team of health correspondents and editors consulted sources and experts around the globe over several months to determine the 100 honorees, who were selected for their world-changing health care efforts. The individuals were divided into titans, innovators, pioneers, leaders and catalysts, Walton being honored in the titan category.
Fellow titans include U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.; Melinda French Gates, wife of late Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates; Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization; Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, head of the National Institutes of Health; and Zoetis CEO Kristin Peck.
Situated on the campus of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, or AWSOM, will bring to life Walton’s vision of holistic medical training that combines nature and art with innovation and wellness. She was inspired to promote whole-person care following her own experiences with the health care system, including the healing power of art.
Walton also founded the Heartland Whole Health Institute, which recently opened at the Crystal Bridges campus with a mission of working with the health care industry to develop a whole-health approach to medicine focused on disease prevention, improved health outcomes and sustained wellness.
