The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will present the University of Central Arkansas College of Business with a $3 million award on Aug. 27.
The award is provided through AHTD’sĀ Arkansas Commercial Truck Safety and Education Program.
UCA submitted a $3 million proposal to endow a named, chaired faculty position at the College of Business to fund aĀ four-year Supply Chain Logistics Management major.Ā AHTD recommended and the Arkansas Highway Commission approved the proposal for award in June 2015.
āThe AHTD is proud to help support educational programs that affect the transportation industry,ā said AHTD Director Scott Bennett. āEngineering programs are obvious to most people, but certainly the trucking industry is an important user of our transportation system.ā
According to UCA Associate Professor of Marketing and Supply Chain Management Doug Voss, āThis new major will train students in motor carrier operations, regulation, safety, risk management, transportation policy and labor relations.ā
The award presentation will be made by Bennett to UCA President Tom Courtway on Aug.Ā 27 at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the UCA College of Business. Dean of the College of Business Dr. Michael Hargis and Voss will also attend.
