Arkansas State University will be splitting up the engineering, agriculture and technology programs that have been combined and is also placing computer science with engineering. The two new buildings will be called the College of Engineering & Computer Science and the College of Agriculture & Technology.
“I have heard from local and regional industry about the need for more engineers in our region, and we know that computer engineering and programing is one of those areas of special interest to a growing number of technology businesses in the Jonesboro area,” Chancellor Damphousse said in a news release. “After speaking with our faculty over the course of the spring semester, I am recommending this change that allows us to become better prepared to meet these needs.”
These changes have been approved by the ASU Board of Trustees.
Damphousse has also decided to take the administrative position and split it into two positions — vice chancellor of enrollment management and a traditional dean of students. The role of vice chancellor of enrollment management will foresee the offices of recruitment, financial aid and admissions. The dean of students will be in charge of student life, residence life, student programs, Greek life and student conduct offices.
“After careful consideration and many conversations across campus, we are reorganizing to have a vice chancellor of enrollment management and the return of a traditional dean of students,” Damphousse said in a news release. “We are conducting a national search to hire the new VC to lead our Division of Enrollment Management, and are seeking someone with the requisite experience to create a more holistic approach to enrollment and student success.”
