Feds accuse North Little Rock photo collector of Heisman fraud

North Little Rock businessman John Rogers was in the business of buying up the photo archives of newspapers all over the country. He had an impressive collection. But now he is in a bit of trouble. The U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois has charged him with felony wire fraud in a case involving a Heisman Trophy. “The indictment claims that in 2009, Rogers bought at auction an honorary Heisman trophy that had been awarded in 1960 to a longtime master of ceremonies of the Heisman Trophy ,” business reporter David Smith writes in today’s DemGaz. Mr. Rogers, the U.S. attorney reports, tried to pass it off as a genuine Heisman as part of a scheme to raise $10 million, Mr. Smith reports.
